A FEAST FOR THE EYES
2007
Ah, the
joys of food and drink. For many hundreds of years artists have celebrated the
pleasures of eating and drinking and this new exhibition continues that
tradition. We have asked 13 artist from all over Scotland to come up with their
interpretation of food and drink. Our main artist is Norman Kirkham, a Glasgow
artists who has sent much of his life painting still lives and figure
composition around the subject of food. The image at the front of our website is
a perfect example of this combination of wonderfully skilful painting with a
witty approach to his subjects. There is another 11of Norman’s paintings in this
exhibition.
Other artists approach the subject differently, Willie Rodger sees much humour
in many of his small linocuts of people and their foibles. Jane Campbell
obviously loves the colour and composition of large still lives consisting of
cakes, sweeties, tea and food of all kinds. Jane Cruickshank, well known to our
clients, likes to recreate the texture and detail of her subjects while Morag
Muir’s paintings are more about colour and atmosphere. The title of this
exhibition is “A Feast for the Eyes” and we believe that is exactly what you
will have if have a look further inside.
