About Us

Frames Gallery has been established since 1979 and has an enviable reputation for showing some of the best in contemporary Scottish art and craft, alongside an award-winning picture framing workshop. 

The business was started as a picture framers but in 1991 we moved buildings to allow the holding of larger exhibitions.  In 1997 we added a large extension to this space to hold exhibitions that were larger still. 

Over the years we have held more than 100 exhibitions featuring many Scottish artists.  We continue to run an annual program of group and solo exhibitions which include painting, printmaking, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, woodwork and metalwork. 

We have a clear policy of showing the best in Scottish contemporary art and craft and actively promote emerging artists alongside well-established artists.  We are delighted to have discovered and been able to promote the work of young Scottish artists such as Lucy Campbell and Jane Cruickshank. We will continue to search out talent; not only at grassroots or local level but throughout Scotland. 

We were the first contemporary Scottish art gallery to use the internet to promote our exhibitions and since then we endeavour to ensure that all work featured in our exhibitions is also available to view on the website.  Please see links on the left of this page - these will direct you to our current exhibition and our archive section.  Indeed, the archive page can function as a potted history of digital camera technology; the images in the early exhibitions were taken with a camera costing a small fortune yet boasting less than 1 megapixel!  Being able to view art online is useful and the advance of digital technology has seen the consumer become better-equipped to make important buying decisions online.  However, whilst we are more than happy to take sales enquiries via this website, we do believe that there is no substitute for seeing the work in the flesh - this can be done at:
