Edward Gage was born in 1925 and started studying at Edinburgh College of Art in 1941. However his studies were interrupted by the war for five years at which point he resumed attending the college and graduated in 1950. He was Art Master at Fettes College for sixteen years until 1968 followed by the post of Senior Lecturer at Napier University, Edinburgh. He is perhaps most well known as the Art Critic of The Scotsman newspaper, a post he has held since 1966, and his opinions on art have been sought by various commitees over the years. He has had many solo exhibitions since 1960 and participated in as many mixed shows. His work is held in several public collections throughout Scotland.
