John Brown was born in1945 and studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1968. In 1971 he became Director of Art at Fettes College in Edinburgh and has remained in full-time teaching until this summer, when he is leaving teaching to pursue a career in painting. He had his first one man show in 1970 at Ayr Gallery and his most recent was in Richmond Gallery in London. He has won several awards and scholarships and is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and The Society of Artists and Artists Craftsmen being elected a professional member of the R.S.W. in 1996.
