Louise Johnstone was born in Edinburgh in 1951. She originally studied English and Psychology at Edinburgh University from 1969-1972 but after teaching for some time decide that a change of direction was needed and she attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from 1983-1987 and is currently an Art History tutor at the college. She combines this with a serious commitment to her art and has several solo exhibitions and has exhibited in many group shows.
