Anne Russell
Statement
As a printmaker of over 40 years, the land and the sea surrounding it, has been a constant feature in my work. Growing up in Orkney gave me the time and opportunity to absorb and observe so many of the elements which define and influence my work. My theme is not always representational - I mean to suggest a time of day or a memory, creating the sense of a place and how I see or remember it. Working mainly from sketches which are developed further at the Printstudio, then hand printed to produce limited edition etchings and monoprints.
About the Artist
As an Orcadian, now living in Perthshire, Anne is a graduate of Gray’s and Glasgow Schools of Art. After graduating she worked at the former Dundee Printmakers Workshop and then at the DCA Dundee Contemporary Arts Printstudio, where she taught etching and relief printing courses while collaborating with many artists on editioning projects. She now continues her own artistic practice in printmaking at the DCA Printstudio.
Anne is an elected Professional member of the SSA Society of Scottish Artists and exhibits with them regularly and at the RSA and with the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, London and elsewhere throughout the UK. Her work is in collections at home and abroad and has several awards from the RSA, the Royal Academy of Art London and CCA Galleries Bath, Printmaker Awards.
