Shona Harcus
Shona was born and raised in Scotland and studied Fine Art and Contemporary Art Practice. Part of her studies took her to North Uist in the Outer Hebrides which was a transformative experience for her.
She currently lives and works in Perthshire, Scotland.
Paintings are in collections throughout the UK and Internationally.
She says of her work:
“I’m strongly influenced by the natural world around me. The Scottish landscape, in particular the West Coast and Hebridean Islands provide a great source of inspiration. The colours, wide open expanses and dramatic weather uplift me and speak to a deep spiritual connection I feel to the sea.
Come Spring/Summer, I can be hugely inspired by the shapes and colours of the flora and fauna around me. My work often responds to this change in season and is reflected in the floral paintings I create.
I use art to process memories of place and my emotional connection to the landscape and my surroundings through expressive, intuitive painting. My work is process-driven, developed through multiple layers, addition and subtraction. I’m not too concerned about the representational, I feel it’s essential to leave a piece open to interpretation allowing the viewer to find their own special connection to it.”
