Anupa Gardner

I am an Indian-born artist based in Scotland, working predominantly in the field of printmaking. My work is often based on lived experiences intermingled with concepts of the everyday, memory, fantasy and nature. I enjoy both the technical and creative processes of print but also explore other media such as painting and ceramics. My interests lie in how we as people inhabit the world, our interactions with each other, nature, and spaces we occupy. I am inspired by the magic and beauty of the everyday. I am always looking for that moment when you make a human connection with another person or a place. These subjects are what make up the subject matter for my prints. I am strongly influenced by narratives and often have an element of storytelling in my
work.

My practice has been shaped by my experiences in India and Scotland. I graduated from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, India, where I studied graphic design. Thereafter I moved to Scotland, graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with an MA in 2008. I have taken on various roles in my career as designer, illustrator, educator, technician and editioner. I now concentrate on my own practice while teaching at Edinburgh College of Art and across Scotland.
