Anupa Gardner

Anupa Gardner is an Indian-born artist based in Scotland, working primarily in printmaking. Her work draws on lived experiences, interweaving themes of the everyday, memory, fantasy, and nature. She is fascinated by the ways in which people inhabit the world — our interactions with one another, with nature, and with the spaces we occupy.

Anupa finds inspiration in the magic and beauty of the everyday, always seeking moments of genuine connection with people and places. These encounters often form the narrative foundation of her prints, many of which carry a subtle element of storytelling.

While printmaking is central to her practice, she also explores other media such as painting and ceramics. She values both the technical discipline and creative freedom these processes offer, allowing her to capture ideas in varied forms and textures.

Her artistic journey has been shaped by experiences in both India and Scotland. Anupa studied Graphic Design at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology in India before completing an MA in Visual Communication at Edinburgh College of Art in 2008. Over the course of her career, she has worked as a designer, illustrator, educator, technician, and editioner. She now focuses on her own practice while teaching at Edinburgh College of Art and leading printmaking workshops across Scotland.
